Fulcrum focuses its investment efforts on the extensive opportunities within the emerging domestic markets of Southern California. Within our market segment, Fulcrum provides acquisition/buy-out capital and expansion capital to businesses with attractive cash flow margins in large, fragmented, and rapidly consolidating industries. Since there are typically several large consolidators driving most of the activity, small but growing ($5MM-$75MM) businesses are often not "in play" and long-term financing may be less readily available. Our strategy is to fund these companies at a level where there is relatively less price and valuation competition, and help drive the growth and expansion of these companies (through internal growth and acquisition) to the "radar screen" of the strategic consolidators where multiples are often higher. Under this strategy, a company sale or recapitalization becomes the primary exit strategy.
We invest with proven, trustworthy, and driven operators, and allow them to run their businesses. Fulcrum adds value by assisting the company with (i) strategic planning, (ii) evaluation of follow-on acquisition opportunities, (iii) enhancement of financial management and reporting systems, and (iv) developing and managing key strategic relationships. In every investment, Fulcrum seeks to help "professionalize" the governance process of the financed entity to prepare it for the next financing phase of its growth.
